EDITORIAL POLICY

Annals of the West University of Timișoara. Humanities Series


  1. About the Journal

The Annals of the West University of Timișoara. Humanities Series is an open-access academic journal dedicated to research in philology, literary studies, linguistics, and related disciplines. The journal promotes academic excellence and the free dissemination of knowledge, providing an interdisciplinary platform for researchers, faculty members, and doctoral students in the field of philological sciences.


  1. Annual Publication Calendar
  • February 15 – October 15: Submission period for the current year’s issue. Submitted manuscripts undergo an evaluation process (initial review, followed by a double-blind peer review) in the order in which they are received.
  • December 15: Publication of the current issue.
  • Manuscripts submitted after October 15 will be considered for the following year’s issue.
  • Each year, the editorial board invites an external editor to coordinate a special thematic issue. A call for papers is published for each special issue.


  1. Open Access Policy

The Annals of the West University of Timișoara. Philological Sciences Series is a fully open-access journal. All articles are freely available without restrictions, in accordance with open-access principles.

The journal follows the diamond open-access model, meaning that:

  • Authors are not charged for article processing (APCs – Article Processing Charges).
  • Readers have free access to the journal’s content.


  1. Licensing and Copyright

To ensure the free dissemination of research findings, all published articles are distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. This license allows for the use, distribution, and reproduction of the work, provided that proper credit is given to the authors.

Authors retain the copyright and the right to republish their work in other formats or contexts, as long as the original publication in our journal is acknowledged.


  1. Peer Review Process

The journal employs a rigorous double-blind peer review process prior to publication. All submitted articles are anonymously evaluated by two independent reviewers, who are experts in the field. The review process (involving both the editorial board and external reviewers) consists of the following steps:

  1. Initial evaluation for compliance with editorial requirements and ethical standards.
  2. Assignment to two anonymous external reviewers, with no connection to the author.
  3. Review process, resulting in one of the following recommendations: acceptance, revision, or rejection.
  4. Revision phase: If revisions are required, authors must submit a revised version within 30 days.
  5. Final decision by the editorial board, based on reviewers’ recommendations.
  6. Editing and proofreading: All peer-review-based revisions must be made by the authors, while editors will only correct typographical, grammatical, and formatting inconsistencies.

The average processing time for manuscripts is a maximum of 3 months from the date of submission.


  1. Ethical Policy and Publishing Standards

The journal adheres to the principles set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and upholds the following ethical guidelines:

  • Originality: All submissions must be original and unpublished. Manuscripts under review by other journals will not be considered.
  • Plagiarism prevention: Submitted manuscripts are screened for plagiarism before the peer review process.
  • Authorship responsibility: All listed authors must have significantly contributed to the research and writing process.
  • Transparency and conflict of interest: Authors must disclose any financial or institutional conflicts of interest.

Any ethical violations will be handled in accordance with COPE guidelines.


  1. Archiving and Indexing

To ensure long-term accessibility and preservation, the journal is archived in academic databases and digital repositories.

The journal is indexed in international databases such as EBSCO and CEEOL. Efforts are ongoing to include it in additional indexing services.


  1. Publication Frequency

Each calendar year, the journal publishes:

  • A regular issue (December).
  • A special thematic issue, coordinated by invited editors.


  1. Article Processing and Publication Fees

The Annals of the West University of Timișoara. Philological Sciences Series does not charge any fees for article processing, peer review, or publication.
